TMAG Children's Festival 2018

Children's Festival Opening

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) Children’s Festival opens today as part of the museum’s ongoing commitment to children and families.

Over the next six days, TMAG will be transformed by the creative energy of children through art, science, sound and movement activities.

The Children’s Festival offers a range of special events, displays, performances, programs and activities produced for and by children, all with the festival theme in mind – ‘CREATE!’

The festival is an important part of the museum’s list of annual events, providing an opportunity for young people to actively participate in the museum’s activities and present what’s important to them.

A special feature of the festival is set to be the Da-Da Dance Party on Friday night, with young visitors encouraged to dress-up as their favourite artist, performer or inventor and bring their families along for a night of fun at the museum.

Family learning is at the heart of the museum’s visit experience and the range of activities have been created to offer inspiration to both children and adults alike.

TMAG works closely with members of its Children’s Reference Panel in developing the program of activities, with several members acting as hosts at today’s activities.

The success of the TMAG Children’s Festival over the past two years demonstrates the museum’s ability to create strong connections with key audiences such as children and families.

The TMAG Children’s Festival is supported by the City of Hobart, Detached Cultural Organisation and the Allport Bequest.

The TMAG Children’s Festival runs from Tuesday, 17 April until Sunday, 22 April 2018 with activities between 10:00 am - 4:00 pm each day. There is a special late night opening from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Friday, 20 April.
