Notice of Deaccession

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is proposing the deaccession of a small number of objects from its Decorative Arts collection to further develop and consolidate the museum’s complete collection. TMAG must remove the identified objects from the collection in an ethical and transparent manner, consistent with internationally accepted museum standards. TMAG’s Deaccession and Disposal Policy – Art and Decorative Arts Collection, and Fine Arts and Decorative Arts Acquisition Policy may be viewed here.

All objects proposed for deaccession can be viewed below. A number of the objects will be retained by TMAG for use as exhibition and office furniture. Remaining objects will be available for sale at public auction at a time yet to be determined. All proceeds from the sale of deaccessioned objects will be reserved by TMAG for future collection purchases.

The Trustees of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery have approved the deaccession subject to a three month ‘cooling off’ period from the date of the Public Notice of Deaccession, 7 January 2017. Members of the public are invited to make comment regarding the objects being deaccessioned during the three month period.

Enquiries may be made by email to tmagmail@tmag.tas.gov.au.
